...figure out how to keep our utilities from being turned off. We have three cards, kind of like credit cards, and all I can gather so far is that we hand over a bunch of cash, they take the cards to a bank and put the cash on them, then they send a worker to our house once a week with the cards, the worker sticks a card in our water, gas and electric meters and recharges them. It's prepaid and if you don't stay on top of it, your utilities are cut off. Our neighbor had her two boys in the tub one winter night when it was already dark and
BAM, the electricity went out. Her husband was gone so she had to grab the boys out of the tub, find a flashlight (or rather a "torch" because they're British) and walk to the office to recharge her electric card. Today they told me (or rather told my Ayi) that if we didn't recharge our card we'd be out of electricity by sometime tonight.
For such a rapidly progressing country you'd think they could figure out a better way. I hope they keep helping me keep track of this because they will quickly learn that hell hath no fury like Kerry without her Internet.
