For anyone interested here's a couple of pictures of our house and one of the lakes in our compound. It's not at all what I expected of China and I'm really happy with where we live.

I'm probably ruining my Ayi's street cred
Not only do my neighbors (if I truly have any) see me scooping my own dog's poop, making our family dinner, sweeping our stoop, but now I think I've caused the management office in our compound to think our Ayi is crazy. The hired help around here seems to have become accustomed to calling for an "expert" to fix EVERYTHING. They either think we're too stupid or too busy to even change a battery. So when the Ayi tells me she's going to call the office to change a lightbulb or stop a running toilet all I can think is "that's ridiculous, I can fix that." Then it eats at me and eats at me until it's a race in my mind to see if I can get it fixed before the worker shows up. So when they get here, she leads them to wherever the supposed problem is, explains in Chinese what she wants them to do and dang, if it ain't already fixed. The hillbilly strikes again.
