Ultrasounds are incredibly amazing anymore. My doctor had just gotten a new machine and did a lot of playing around with our new little man (I can say that with certainty now). She checked out all she needed to with measurements and such and then the little guy was determined to make sure we knew he was a boy. Before we knew I'd lay in bed and ask myself if I had the choice for boy or girl, what would I pick? I could never make a choice and can honestly say even if I could have had medicine intervene I would have left it up to nature. In the back of my head, I've always seen myself with "my three sons" and I really don't think my boys (emphasis on Kenny) could have dealt with any more estrogen or hormonal mood swings in this house. I would have been thrilled with a healthy girl too, but a bit in shock. I know what to do with boys - ha! We're so lucky at my age that thus far everything looks to be where it's supposed to be and all the tests have come back negative for chromosomal abnormalities. I guess my eggs are the only thing still young about me!
I have an incredible short movie of the 3D ultrasound and if anyone is interested I can e-mail it to you. Didn't want to freak anyone out on the blog. You cannot believe the changes in ultrasounds in just the four short years since I had Jack. I had to wait until 19 weeks for the big ultrasound with the boys. With this little one we have checked out every angle and are 100% certain of sex at just 17 weeks. We could see him opening and closing his mouth and even my untrained eye could pick out the fibula, tibia, radius, ulna, sutures of the skull, chambers of the heart, ear buds, hand bones. In a few years they are probably going to be able to superimpose skin, hair, eye color, etc. and you'll get an idea what the baby will look like as an adult...let's hope not - freaky!
