This time around we finally made it to Pere Lachaise cemetery where many famous Parisians are buried plus Jim Morrison. We checked out the graves of Chopin, Jimmy and some other "famous" people that I had never heard of. I just read that Marcel Marceau was buried there a few weeks back, but the map didn't show where and this cemetery is HUGE, so we didn't see his grave. It really is a beautiful place as far as cemeteries go, with some really ornate and unusual tombs.

The Lizard King's final resting spot. He died in Paris at the age of 27.

On our way out of the city we stopped by another sight that we had never been to before, La Defense and La Grande Arche. It was inaugurated in 1989 and really is an amazing piece of architecture. Inside is office space for 30,000 people and Notre Dame cathedral would fit under it's arch.
After leaving Paris we headed for the town of Senlis to see it's cathedral. We made a quick in and out stop, but it was a really pretty little town with cobble stoned streets and a beautiful cathedral.
From Senlis we drove on to Laon, France which is a hilltop town that had beautiful views of the French plains and a beautiful cathedral which was the model for the cathedrals of Charters, Reims, and Dijon. You can't see us well, but here is a picture of the boys and I in front of the cathedral and one of one of the gargoyle covered steeples..jpg)
From Laon, we drove on to Reims to spend the night and pick up some Champagne the next day. We took a back road to Reims and it was packed with monuments to WWI. We're guessing there were some major battles in this area. Here are a couple of pictures of a French cemetery we stopped at.
